Setting up 4g modem
In this article, we will tell you about the basic settings for a 4g modem. As an example, we will take the most popular model 4g modem with a SIM card operating in 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies, with a distribution radius of up to 10 meters. Usually, the menu of the modem has an English interface, so the main settings items and control buttons are presented below.
The main control buttons and connectors of the device
Front Panel
To start the router, you need to insert the GSM operator’s SIM card. Moreover, to do this, remove the battery, insert the SIM card into the slot until it clicks and closes the protective valve, replace the battery and close the back panel.
To turn on Sailsky SKY50 and another mobile modem, press the power button and hold it for 2 – 3 seconds until Jetpack or another logo appears on the screen.
To turn off the router, press the power button again, 4g modem and hold it for 2 – 3 seconds. During the shutdown, the screen will display MIFI Powering Off.
Main menu items: WiFi Name / Password
Select the Wi-Fi Name / Password menu item and press the centre button. We get to the page with the parameters: Wi-Fi Name – the name of the network, Password – the password.
To connect to the router’s network, on your device we find a network called Verizon-MiFi6620L-WXYZ, where WXYZ is the unique identifier of the router, and enter the specified 8-digit password.
When you press the more buttons, a page with the address of the WEB interface of the settings and the password for access to 4g modem is displayed. Press the Exit button to exit this menu.
Connected devices on 4g modem
This item lists all devices connected to the router, and their IP and MAC addresses. If necessary, you can block any of the devices.
Select the menu item connected devices, control the arrows to the right or left, and press the OK button.
- Wi-Fi Devices – devices connected to the router at the moment
- Blocked Devices – blocked devices
- USB Tethering – devices connected via USB cable
- Exit – exit
Settings 4g modem
In this section, you can control the main functions of the 4g modem – WI-FI settings, switching operating modes in mobile networks, enabling or disabling sound notifications, etc.
Wi-Fi
Here you can enable or disable the wireless network, or switch the WI-FI module to work in 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz frequencies. By default, WI-FI is on. To turn it off, select the WI-FI menu item, point to OFF and press OK, to turn it on, point to ON and press OK.
In order to switch between modes, you need to go to the menu item on Band. After clicking the Change button, the system will ask if you really want to switch to the 5 GHz frequency. Click yes to confirm. And you also need to fly to switch to the 2.4 GHz frequency.
Screen Timeout on 4g modem
In this 4g modem, you can select the time to turn off the display – 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes or never. To set the required screen time, you need to go to the Settings menu, select the Screen Timeout menu item and move the arrows to the right or left to select the required time to turn off the display. Press the Set button.
Audio On / Of
Here you can set whether to enable or disable notification sounds. To do this, select the Audio On / Off item and with the central button select Turn Off – turn off the sound or Turn On – turn on the sound. To exit this menu item, press back.
Audio Alerts
At this point, you can select the events on the 4g modem that should be accompanied by sound notifications. To do this, select the Audio Alerts item. A list of events for which you can set or remove sound notifications will open. ON – sound notification is enabled, OFF – disabled.
Network Technology
This item is designed to switch between router operating modes for use in networks of different telecom operators. To do this, select the Network Technology menu item, and moving the arrows to the right or left, select the desired mode, and press the OK button.
To work with the selected mode, you do not need to reboot the device. Only in some cases, a reboot is required.
There are several operating modes for the Sailsky SKY50:
Global is an automatic mode in which the router selects the CDMA or GSM / UMTS network by itself. LTE only – only works on the Verizon network in the US. In Ukraine, as well as in European countries, the 4g WiFi mesh will not work in this mode. CDMA only – works only in the CDMA standard. In the USA, the operator Inter-telecom operates in this standard.
LTE / UMTS / GSM is a combined mode designed to work both in the fourth generation LTE networks and in the GSM / UMTS networks, in which the operators Vodafone, and TriMob operate in the USA. To exit the menu, move the cursor to Back and press OK.
Universal Charging
We select the Universal charging menu item, an animation will be displayed, with which you can see how to connect and charge a phone or laptop or tablet.
WPS 4g modem
WPS – Wi-Fi Protected Setup is a technology that simplifies the settings of a WI-Fi wireless network. To enable the WPS function and pair the router with another device, select the WPS item, and then Start Push Button.
After that, within 2 minutes you need to press the same WPS button on the pair 4g modem. After pressing, after a short time, the devices will connect to each other automatically.
4g modem Software Update
The Software Update section of the menu intends for updating the firmware of the router. This feature works correctly on the Verizon operator’s network. By default, automatic updating disabled and does not function!
Messages
To view them, you need to move the arrows to the right or left of the Messages item and press the OK button.
To exit the mode of viewing messages, press Exit.
